About Us

Our Mission

Seeds of Change is dedicated to empowering women and their families by providing free, compassionate medical, dental, visual and auditory care. We serve low-income, uninsured women, children and families at Seeds of Change, facilitating their journey to recovery and reintegration into society. Our commitment to their health and well-being fosters a supportive environment that nurtures women as individuals and in their roles as mothers.

Our core values of compassion, integrity, and respect create a nurturing environment for our clients to seek care without shame or stigma. We provide care with empathy, understanding the challenges faced by our clients. We operate with transparency and accountability, focused solely on the well-being of our clients. We honor the dignity of women, their children and families valuing their diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Seeds of Change relies on the generous support of our community.

Our Story

Seeds of Change begins with Seeds of Hope.
The Seeds of Hope story began 25 years ago when Fr. Glenn O’Connor took over a women’s home for recovering addicts on the property of St. Joseph’s parish. This program was established to help women on their journey to recovery from drug and alcohol addictions. Sadly, Fr. Glenn passed away, but his mission endures and continues to thrive.

Since then, we have built the Fr. Glenn Home, a safe and sober living community for women who have completed the initial recovery program. Here, women can continue their journey in a supportive environment while working, saving money, and becoming independent.

One of the earliest graduates of Seeds of Hope was Marvetta Grimes. After graduating in 2000, she devoted her life to the Seeds of Hope mission and became its Executive Director. Marvetta’s journey was marked by deep loss—she lost her children to the system during her addiction, and her son Anthony tragically passed away in foster care due to neglect. Before her passing, Marvetta dreamed of creating a recovery home for women and their children, ensuring that no one would have to endure the hardships she faced.

Today, in partnership with Volunteers of America, Seeds of Hope is bringing Marvetta’s dream to life. We are building two homes for women and their families on the property adjacent to Seeds of Hope. This complex will be named the Marvetta and Anthony Grimes Family Center, creating a cohesive sober living campus. The center will offer daycare and preschool services through St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center, along with free medical, dental, visual, and auditory care at the Seeds of Change Free Clinic.
